The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester has appointed HFL Building Solutions as its maintenance contractor for the next three years.

The Royal Exchange Theatre was founded in 1976 in the old Cotton Exchange in Manchester. Over the years, a gh calibre of actor has performed on the stage from Tom Finney, Leo McKern and Tom Courtenay in the early days through successive generations including Vanessa Redgrave, Helen Mirren and Robert Lindsay to figures such as Janet McTeer and Amanda Donohoe. It has also had a reputation for spotting young actors before they became megastars. Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant both appeared at the Royal Exchange long before they made it on film.
The Theatre has a remarkable design - seven-sided, glass-walled capsule literally suspended from huge marble pillars situated in The Great Hall . This means all seats are less than nine metres from the circular stage giving views from all angles.

The award of the maintenance contract to HFL is a break from how it was run in the past - several specialist contractors and others carrying out reactive works, which made management quite difficult. With a single provider in HFL, the Royal Exchange Theatre has a recognisable point of contact - one contractor, one helpdesk number, one invoice. This enables the theatre management to concentrate on its core business - entertainment.
And one more thing - HFL certainly won't be acting up for their customer!
